I have the same thing happening here with Ubuntu 11.04. Were you able to find a fix that may just be what I have happening here (1 year later)?
Thanks! Seems to have freed it all up. I'm still bordering on a re-install. Linux never seems to like my computers :( I have to ctrl-alt F1 and "Exit" the initramfs just to boot into a graphical...
Looking for some advice on what to do, this was installed from the Software Center.

Not sure if this is the right place to be posting this... but here's the deal.
I wanted to check out MythTV to see what it was all about. I went to run mythtv-setup and it comes up all garbled. ...
How do I change the resolution for GDM? Instead of it taking up my whole screen, it's almost like it's gone 800x600 and only takes pu the top-left corner of my screen.
Not sure if it's related,...
This is kinda where we run into where the topic can branch off. If you're running Wubi, then the 4gigs is probably like a virtual disc that Wubi creates in order to store Ubuntu. As I mentioned...
If he's right, please disregard my post. I've never really looked at (or read about Wubi). Sorry.
There's a good chance your laptop didn't do a clean shutdown because the battery totally died before it was able to... like if you were to just hit the power button. If it didn't report any...
Are you talking about the backlight? Are you positive it's hardware-related and not just something to do with the software that controls the brightness of the screen? I'm going to make an educated...
Thanks for the help, I've concluded that the issue itself is the battery, which I recently replaced maybe 2 months ago. The acpi command outputted:
Battery 0: Unknown, 0%
And the fact that...
Assuming you format the NTFS partition and not the EXT one (which I think will show up in the xp installer as "unknown") you should be fine. The only issue I can think of is that god-awful...
and if worst comes to worst, you can always use the "locate" command, and if that fails, you can always try "sudo updatedb" then locate.
So I restarted my computer today, it's not actually related to Ubuntu. The battery led even flashes when the computer is first turned on. Maybe if I leave my computer on and unplugged and kill the...
I just added that one... it says "No Battery Present". The LED on the computer is also flashing. Maybe it's something deeper than the OS.
Not sure what I've done here, but for some reason my battery meter says "Computer is running on AC Power. Battery state could not be read at this time. Battery charge is currently unknown" I'm...
