I've actually done this too many times and have now setup a imap server locally on my Mac with dovecot as my archival location for email. That way, I can just setup a normal imap account in any...
In Apple Mail, select the mailboxes you want to export. Go to the menu and choose Mailbox > Export Mailbox
Mail exports mailboxes into a container with an .mbox extension, but they are not true...
OS X has done that for a very long time, it is not a new feature of Lion.
You will only be able to boot natively off an external disk if you boot via EFI which is troublesome to say the least. Even if you get it to boot you will very likely have hardware issues.
Having the same problem here. I setup everything over ssh with my Mac... I did a quick VNC install and everything works well that way... any suggestions?
The installer asks you about grub on the very last screen of the install setup. There is an "Advanced" button (or at least that is what it used to say) where you can choose where to install Grub (or...

Can you give more detail about how you are mounting the drive?
yea, unless you are planning to use them primarily on the Mac, I would migrate to a new filesystem.
rEFIt can only sync the main hard drive... you can install gptsync in ubuntu and specify what drive to sync.
you would need to boot into OS X to "install" rEFIt. There is a CD image though so you can make a bootable CD.
Have you tried taking all other disks out of the machine?
the multiple disk capability is a bit unique on the mac pro and can require some special handling. boot from the OS X dvd and see if you can select your OSX partition as the startup volume. I think...
Hmm interesting. I didn't know it was that specific. So you can theoretically put the stage files on the EFI partition and you can install Linux anywhere...?
OK, interesting
We are talking with someone on the new hardware now... His is a MacBookPro though:

Does this mean we are still limited to the first four partitions when booting legacy mode?
I believe the plan is to make grub2 default in the final release.
The fact that it replaces Grub1 is...

Possibly. I dont really see a reason it wouldn't.
Also, the underlying tools that actually do the resizing are in Tiger, there is just no interface to use them in Disk Utility....
